Moonboard Review

I've had the Moonboard fingerboard for over two years. I think it's one of the best investments I've ever made into rock climbing training equipment. Having this beauty around enables you to keep up your finger strength even when you are too busy to hit the rocks or gym.

I have come across quite a few different finger boards, but they just don't quite compare to this one. Though I cannot really recommend the Moonboard for a total climbing novice as it could be a tad too hard. But for the more adept climber this is the thing you want. The smallest grooves are a real fingerkiller!

Moonboard holds

The easiest holds are in the ends on the top. Those should not be a problem for most people and they are great for pure strength training with extra weights. Below those you will find the second easiest holds that I find I am not using that much. They could be good for the beginner climber to get finger strength and stamina.

Next come the holds bit to the center. Those I use for doing long hangs with extra weights. The next holds are on the bottom in the ends. They are good for finger tip strength training and training for the smallest holds. The smallest holds are again in the middle. They are pure evil.

There is also a one finger hole in the center, so you can do one finger pull ups... err, I mean train for them. Also top center of the Moonboard is one big sloper, which is good training for sloper holds.

FiveTen Men's Anasazi Moccasym Climbing Shoe review

I've had these shoes for about 3 years now. As my first slip on -shoes I instantly took a liking to the ease of use these red socks offer. The shoes are also amazing at smearing. My only real gripe is that they are a bit too soft for my liking. Climbing really small edges on crags make your feet hurt - like a alot. But for indoors climbing they are really good!

Definitely would recommend these for those sweaty indoors sessions, where it's nice to take your shoes of for a bit of chilling between sending.

Pros:
  • Durable (at least as a back up shoe)
  • Smears like no other
  • Easy to slip on
Cons:
  • They stretch over time
  • Too soft

Mind over matter

Mind over matter. I love the saying and find it spot on for climbing. When you have reached certain level of climbing physique, the mental element becomes a huge part of a climb. Often times you fail a climb in your mind long before your body gives up due to lack of strength or endurance.

Here you'll find a list of techniques you can use to enhance your mental strength.

Build confidence, erase doubt

When you know you can do a route the climb feels easier, even though you really haven't ever done the route. For example if you know a friend, a lesser climber of course, has done the ascent, you find the climb easier. And that's because of confidence. Doubt makes weak. When not in doubt, you climb relaxed and in optimal mode for peak performance.

Here's my list for you to build confidence and erase doubt:
  • Train hard (surprise! )
  • Read inspiring Climbing Books
  • Build mental imagery of a successful climb
  • Become accustomed to falling (especially important in the beginning)
  • Develop a climbing attitude

(This is an article in progress, so more tips will be added shortly. I will also link the tips to relevant articles.)

Hello Climbers!

I am a young climber from Europe with a bit over six years of climbing experience. I will be posting  hand picked rock climbing tips and short reviews of equipment. Maybe some climbing pics too.

Mostly I am writing this blog to serve me as a personal stash of climbing & training tips. Also I hope the reviews will help someone make a better decision when buying climbing equipment.
